Dont apologize ranting is good. Now, about the gas tax, pissed off is an under statement. Isn't the gas prices enough. I heard there raising those again to. I never thought we would spend so much time talking about gas as we have in the past year. Leave the gas alone! Taxing us per mile is ridiculous. They dont want anybody to go anywhere. They are better off just taking the money right out of our check. That's what there doing anyway right. I feel bad for you, because you pay enough gas prices anyway without them taxing everything. The government is forcing us to spend money on things we wouldn't normally. We just bought converter boxes for the DTV transition that caused us to spend money we weren't intending on spending. Now they are trying to convince us to by hybrids which aren't cheap at all, especially for my family of 5. Now its gas tax. We should do a politician tax. For politician who come up with dumb ways for us to pay more.

don't worry, this wont happen. The government talks about a lot of things and fortunately forgets about 99 percent of them. Well, they are mostly old men after all. Thank goodness (in this case) for Alzheimer's.

Hi: Yes the batteries are expensive.
They are about 5 to 7 thousand dollars depending on the car.
They are however expected to last 8 to 10 years.
I would assume that they would also have some effect on the trade in value of the car.
If you want to trade in your 8 year old car even if the mileage is low, but the battery is almost ready for replacement, i wonder how the trade in value of that car is VS one that has low mileage but a regular gas engine that does not need to be replaced. ( just food for thought)

Motor Trend had an article about Li-ion batteries being the norm as stated in the news but it turned out to be ni-mh batteries in 03. The author went to a car show expecting li-ion batteries and was told no it was ni-mh. So if you have to rely on someone giving you the straight story on which type is best you should maybe try one first. If your care-full then you would get a long life out of a battery as stated here http://powerelectronics.com/portable_power_management/battery_charger_ics/804PET22li-ion-battery-life.pdf . If it is something to test out the batteries with then a small cheap one would be best. Zap motors has small electric types I noticed from an article in wired.com. - http://www.wired.com/cars/coolwheels/news/2008/02/zap/ . Not a hybrid but probably good for a short commute.
