Unfortunately, there isn’t any recourse for having made a foolish decision. If this was done just yesterday (or recently), he could probably go back and explain that he reconsidered wanting to sell the Mercedes and ask if they’ll undo that trade in. The amount of money they make on the used car probably isn’t really a whole lot and in an attempt to ensure they have a happy customer, they might let him buy it back. They’re likely to charge him for “work” done on it already, but if $1,100 plus the cost of that “work” is still a reasonable price for you, then you can buy it. But they’re not obligated to be reasonable out any of this though.

Assuming that 2000 Mercedez Benz was in “good conditions” then your uncle was a fool (only for the spare parts he had a few thousands on it), but he can’t reverse the deal (he did it voluntarily and he agreed to their offer.)

So there is nothing he (or you) can do. Well, you can remind your uncle what a fool he was because that used car is sold from $7,000 to $11,000.

Unless the dealer actually misrepresented something, or your uncle is incompetent to manage his own affairs, this deal is legal. Your uncle presumably did his research, and he made the deal that he could live with.

I have to wonder if you actually told your uncle that you would pay five grand for that car. I also have to wonder if you’re good for it. For instance, my husband has a brother who will claim that he’s willing to pay a certain amount for a vehicle or piece of equipment, but who is never able to come up with the whole amount. This brother then wants to pay in installments, and it seems that he only pays a few installments, and then he can’t seem to come up with the rest of the money. Have you done this in the past, or do you pay your debts as quickly as possible?
