No air has to be compressed during upstroke, because, as you say, there’s void on the downstroke, so the void would actually assist in bringing the piston back up.

But IMO it would be more energy efficient to use the combustion engine for charging only. It could be highly optimized to run quietly on low power but for as long as needed and at only one fixed rpm, for which it is optimized, and it could be quite small.

    Cheers

Learn the deadly truth about this piece of crap, when without warning the 12V battery starts to go bad. Hondalemon Com

I found it odd too but when it compresses air then that compressed air helps push it down again. so it’s not a complete loss. and I’d guess it closes when the piston is up so it’s cycling a near vacuum so it loses less to compression heat but I don’t quite believe it’s “very efficient”. I imagine the combustion engine is quite hard to spin so it will be quite wasteful.
they should just make a series hybrid already. not this parallel crap

Nice video! thanks for posting. Question:
How long or how far can the car go during low speed cruising? since it only run on motor (battery capacity). Prius would go for about 1 km in EV (Electric Vehicle) mode. Thanks

Personally I find something confusing, the valves stay CLOSED??? That would cause great losses in power because the pistons are tying to suck a void on downstroke and then compress air with no place to go on the upstroke, wouldnt it??? Seems like one valve (exh???) should stay closed and one open to allow the air in the chamber to come and go easily. Maybe I donr understand something. Seems like it would act like a “Jake Brake” to me.

    one question…
Is there a book explaining everything
    with graphics and detail explanation
    of how hybrid car works???
    just like this excellent video???
