Put simply, they run on an electric motor sometimes, on a gas motor sometimes, and on BOTH sometimes, depending on terrain, driver input etc.
They have more than one source of power available to drive the car, or they use combined sources of power to move the vehicle. For example, most have an electric motor and a gas engine, so they are a “hybrid” or combination of a gasoline car and an electric car.
