Hybrid Cars Disadvantages

When it comes to hybrid cars, everyone is excited and can’t wait to see what automobile manufactures will come up with next. Hybrids are some of the most fascinating vehicles on the market today. They have so much going for them that they are sure to continue to grow in popularity over the next few years. After all, what other vehicle design can offer the same advantages as a gas driven vehicle while reducing the carbon emissions that are so dangerous to our planet and its inhabitants?

At this particular point in time, there are none. The completely electric car is an option when it comes to reducing pollution but they are not practical for most people. This is because they don’t go very far before needing to be recharged and charging them takes a long time. Plus, they don’t have the speed needed to be driven on the highway and this could cause some serious problems.

The hybrid offers the benefits of both worlds combined. It has the electric motor that reduces harmful emission and the gas engine that gives it the power it needs to be efficient and practical for everyday use. Still, as with anything it does have a few disadvantages.

Disadvantages of hybrid cars:

•    Price – The price is by far the biggest disadvantage of the hybrid today. Out of the hybrids available, they average costing several thousand dollars more than the non-hybrid version of the same vehicle. In a society where money is tight and the future is uncertain, this can be discouraging for the average person. Every dime counts and consumers tend to choose the cheaper option.
•    Battery – The next disadvantage that seems to get a lot of attention is the batteries used to run the electric motor. The manufactures offer warranties to cover the battery but what happens if you’re in an accident and the battery is damaged or if it stops working after the warranty runs out? There have been reports that some car owners have problems with the battery in cold weather so what do you do if this happens to you? Do you have any idea how much it would cost to replace the battery in a hybrid? It’s estimated to cost between one and six thousand dollars depending on the vehicle design and it’s age.
•    Performance and Safety – Many consumers don’t feel that the hybrid can perform as well as gasoline powered vehicles. It’s true they may not accelerate quite as fast but they do meet the standards that are required to be considered acceptable for the open road. Safety is another issue because many consumers worry about being electrocuted if involved in an accident, but it’s believed they are as safe as the traditional vehicle.

Cars, trucks and vans are all part of the world as we know it. Trying to function on a daily basis without some reliable form of transportation would basically be impossible. How would children get to school and how would adults work? It wouldn’t be possible for many people to get to the grocery store to buy food but even worse, there would be no way for food to be delivered to the grocery stores.

In other words, vehicles are here to stay because we just can’t live without them. Therefore, despite the disadvantages that might accompany hybrid cars for now, they are definitely a step in the right direction. With time, they will improve and these disadvantages will be eliminated somehow because they are the future when it comes to transportation.
